Acrilex Inc. announced the addition of Acriglas® FR flame-retardant, cell cast acrylic sheets. The Acriglas FR series has been tested by an independent laboratory and meets stringent UL94 V-0 standards for flame retardant plastics. These products can be manufactured in solid colors and marble effects and are offered in gloss, matte or any of the seven other surface textures currently offered in Acriglas. Presently, the light transmission of these products would be described as somewhat translucent to opaque, though more translucent and possibly transparent products are still in development.

Additionally, Acriglas FR can be fabricated, glued, printed, hot-stamped and thermoformed, with the same techniques as ordinary cell cast acrylic.

These products are ideal for lighting applications, store fixtures, trade show exhibits and elevators where fire rated or flame retardant products are required. Spartech Plastics offers Tuf-Glas® CR, a clear, impact-modified acrylic engineered specifically for outdoor signage and other outdoor display applications. Tuf-Glas CR is manufactured using new acrylic resin technology based on very high molecular weight raw materials, vastly improving craze- and chemical-resistance and enhancing hardness, heat resistance and fabrication.

For years, extruded plastics were considered inferior to cast products in chemical resistance, appearance and fabrication properties; but improvements in extrusion technology, addition of rubber modifiers and increases in molecular weight are reducing the differentiators.

Intended for thermoformed, backlit sign faces, Tuf-Glas CR (in comparison to other extruded acrylics) exhibits superior craze-resistance to the inks and solvents typically used in painting and silk-screening and has been selected for use in major sign programs by both production and custom sign companies.
