TRADE ASSOCIATIONS PAY SCALE
A number of trade associations associated with the plastics industries and the compensation paid to their top officials were recently reported in Plastics News. The article listed various trade groups managed both by direct managers and also by managing firms and salaries or compensation range from a low of $18,000+ for the Massachusetts Public Interest Group to $545,000 for Grocery Manufacturers of America. In between there were the Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc. at $194,000; SPI at $340,000; Composite Fabricators Association at $502,000; etc. Most of the organizations listed in the article showed a substantial surplus of expenses versus income and carried cash reserves to cover a portion of one years' income. It was pointed out that it was becoming harder and harder to get contributions to support particular non-profit groups, since, as an example, public interest in recycling is waning and low end local government support is now strong for curbside pick-up programs.
