ESCOs AND WHAT THEY MEAN
Until recently electricity was both supplied and delivered by the local utility company and was probably regulated by a public service commission. Under new government incentives, competition is now open to a variety of Energy Services Companies. These companies will be able to supply electricity at unregulated market base prices and offer other types of energy services. Consumers will be able to choose an electricity supplier from among these ESCOs, but the power will be delivered over the transmission lines of the public service company in the area.
